Summer 2022Guided Walks

The Big Life Group runs a number of guided walks for free each week in the Rochdale borough. Here we have listed a selection in Heywood, Littleborough, Middleton and Rochdale.

Hollin & Hopwood Woods, Middleton
Mondays 10am.
Meet at Hollin Estate Management Board office, Hollin Shopping Precinct, Nowell Road, Middleton M24 6FL
There is a free car park at Hollin EMB office and bus stop close by.

Milnrow Library Walking Group, Rochdale
Mondays 10am.
Meet at Milnrow Library, Newhey Road, Milnrow, Rochdale OL16 3NP
With multiple leaders we are able to offer lots of options to suit new and intermediate walkers. Refreshments are available at the library afterwards. Street parking in the area.

Cutgate Walking Group, Rochdale
Tuesdays 10am.
Meet at Denehurst Park entrance off Edenfield Road, Rochdale OL11 5AF
This is a slower pace walking group. There is some free car parking inside the park and bus stops on Edenfield Road.

Castleton Walking Group, Rochdale
Wednesdays 10am.
Meet at the Castleton Community Centre car park, Keswick Street, Castleton, Rochdale OL11 3AG
There is free parking at the rear of Castleton Community Centre. The walk follows the canal towpath around Castleton. Toilets are available.

Falinge Park, Rochdale
Wednesdays 11am.
Meet at Falinge Park main entrance, Falinge Road, Rochdale OL12 6LB
This is a short gentle walk. The routes are pushchair and wheelchair accessible and aimed at new walkers and people with health conditions. Street parking in the area.

Hollingworth Lake, Littleborough
Wednesdays 2pm.
Meet at Hollingworth Lake Visitors Centre, Rakewood Road, Littleborough OL15 0AQ
This walk is a little quicker than our other walks and uses the surrounding hills and moors. Pay and display car parking, toilets and café available.

Queen’s Park, Heywood
Thursdays 10am.
Meet at the cafe inside the park, Queen’s Park Road, Heywood OL10 4UY
There are two groups. A gentle walk with a focus on nature and a longer walk for more experienced walkers. Free car park available. Toilets at the café.

Syke Walk & Talk, Rochdale
Fridays 10am.
Meet at Syke Methodist Church, Syke Road, Rochdale OL12 9TF
This particular walk is quite long at two hours with more hills than our usual walks. Toilets are available.

Safety information for guided walks

No dogs allowed, except for guide dogs.
Please wear a face mask, if possible.
Please don’t attend if you or anyone in your household has tested positive for Covid-19 or is showing symptoms.
Walks in winter may be cancelled or rerouted due to ice, deep snow or mud.
You are advised to wear a waterproof coat and walking boats or similar hardy footwear in poor weather.
The walks have been awarded ‘Accredited Scheme’ status as the walks have been proven to be safe, well-led and well-organised.
